PSLE English

Paper 1 (Writing)

Part 1: Situational Writing: The students will be given a situation and they have to write a short functional piece or letter. They will be assessed based on how they express their ideas. So, this will be a practice for email writing and evaluation of Writing skills.

Part 2: Continuous Writing: Students will be given a topic and they should write a continuous prose of at least 150 words. 3 pictures will be given on a particular topic and they will be asked to interpret the topic. They will be assessed on factors like Grammar, Vocabulary, Sentence formation, Paragraph writing with an introduction, and Punctuation.

The duration for the parts will be 1 hour 10 minutes.

Paper 2 (Language Use and Comprehension)

In psle exam format in English Paper 2, the students will be assessed based on their ability to write grammatically correct language. Students have to comprehend visual and textual information. This paper is a combination of MCQ and open-ended questions. They will be tested on Vocabulary, Grammar, Editing, Comprehension, Visual text comprehension and Synthesis. The duration of the paper is 1 hour 50 minutes.

Paper 3 (Listening Comprehension)

In PSLE English Paper 3, students will be assessed on their ability to understand spoken English. They will have to answer 20 MCQs. Questions 1 to 7 will be based on the pictorial representations. The other written material will differ as announcements, advertisements, conversations, instructions or stories. The duration will be 35 minutes for this paper.

Paper 4 (Oral Communication)

In psle exam format in English paper 4, students have to read the passage aloud. Here, pronunciation, fluency in the language and articulation will be tested. Further, they will be engaged in a stimulus-based conversation with the examiners. A picture will be shown to the students and they will be expected to voice their thoughts on what they saw. The duration will be 5 minutes to prepare and 5 minutes to answer.

PSLE Mathematics

Paper 1

The students are evaluated in Booklet A and Booklet B in the PSLE Maths paper 1. Booklet A carries 15 MCQ questions for 20 marks. These questions will be straightforward and they will assess basic skills. Booklet B carries 15 short answers for 25 marks. These questions will be trickier and may comprise one to two parts. In case, if the students do not give the complete answer and if it is partially correct, they will get partial marks. The students should be fast and accurate in working on the sums and this will increase the AL score. Math Paper 1 will be conducted for 1 hour.

Paper 2

Paper 2 in PSLE Math is conducted for 1 hour 30 minutes and it is to test the expertise in Mathematics. It has only 1 booklet and it consists of 5 short answer questions and each of them will consist of 2 marks. Also, there will be 12 problem-solving questions for a total of 45 marks. Some problems are indirect and students should read the questions carefully to understand and answer the questions.

PSLE Science

The PSLE Science exam is conducted for 1 hour 45 minutes and it comprises 2 booklets. Booklet A will be the MCQ section where the students have to answer 28 questions for 2 marks each. Booklet B is composed of 12 to 13 Open-ended questions and the marks allocated are from 2 to 5 marks, based on the question type. The total marks for the Open-ended section is 44 marks and students should answer all the questions.
